Hi guys! Happy Sunday! I really am convinced that they should re-name today Mimosa day. You know– like, Friday, Saturday, Mimosaday, then Monday again…
Speaking of mimosas, I’ve been meaning to tell you guys about what Cotton and Cabernet was almost named. My best friend Bridget and I had been brainstorming names and she came up with Mimosas and Manolos.
I. LOVED. IT.
Like, I squealed it was so perfect. I absolutely live for Sunday morning mimosas, and Manolo Blahniks satisfy every inch of the Carrie Bradshaw soul inside of me.
I was ready to pull the trigger- domain name, logo, business cards, the works- until I realized that with Manolos in my blog name, I could never be a budget blog, which has been my dream since Day 1. So, Cotton and Cabernet it was– but more on the theory behind that name here.
Any time a brand, boutique, or retailer contacts me to review products, I immediately jump on their website and thoroughly inspect their price points… I promised you guys a long time ago that Cotton and Cabernet is and will always be a budget blog. Champagne taste and a beer budget is a real struggle, and I’m seriously passionate about finding quality clothes on a college budget… whether you’re in college or not. I actually turn brands down all the time if they don’t fit the budget fashionista lifestyle.
That being said… I fell in love with September Lane, who contacted me to review a couple of their products.
I’ve been absolutely loving really feminine mini dresses lately– especially ones that I can keep on heavy rotation when winter rolls around. I’m loving the sweet little details on this cold shoulder dress!
I received this dress and the “Chloe” sparkly statement necklace, which I’m absolutely obsessed with.
**Side note: I actually also received THE CUTEST pair of spade stud earrings from September Lane, but I was totally an airhead when I shot this look and forgot to put them in! Even worse, they were sitting in my purse the whole time! It was 6am and I had JUST landed from a redeye from Dallas the night before. I totally hit my forehead like a V-8 commercial when I realized. Anyway, I’m going to style them with an outfit this week, so stay tuned. They look EXACTLY like Kate Spade but are just $20 and I’m inexcusably obsessed with them.
Overall, I really like this dress a lot. It’s a great length for a mini dress, and the cut falls really nicely, too- it’s a tad longer in the back than it is in the front, which I love. And how cute are the ruffles on the cold shoulder?
The other thing I love about this dress and color is how versatile this look is- you can really dress this up or down. With a pair of black tights and bow heels (like these) how cute would this dress be for the holidays?
The only small (and super small) issue with this dress is that the fabric was a little clingy, but that’s so common and such an easy fix- my DIY fix for clothes that stick is just spraying a little hairspray on my skin beforehand. Voilá! Problem solved. Old pageant tricks die hard.
I’m super excited about theDot and know my C+Cers will love them. Let me know what goodies you find on their website! Happy Mimosaday!
