Happy Saturday, C+C’ers! I’m really excited to be branching into beauty here recently, because a huge passion of mine is not only finding clothes that are budget friendly, but quality beauty products as well. I was recently contacted by Smile Brilliant to try their dental grade teeth whitening kit give an honest testimonial of my experience. This will actually be the first of two blog posts I’m doing on my new teeth whitening kit– I just got my dental trays back and started using them, so the next post will include photos of how I apply my gels and the whitening progress I’ve made so far. Stay tuned for that in the next week or so! I’m already seeing a huge difference.
But seriously babes… this kit is BOMB.
Let me just say that I’m a teeth whitening addict. Because I typically drink six cups of coffee at the start of my day and and one to two glasses of wine at the end of it, I have to take extra precaution to protect my chompers from glorious beige and purple stains.
I’ve tried a ton of teeth whitening treatments- in the past, I used a competitor brand, Crest white strips, and even oil pulling. The problem is that not only do I have to worry about fighting stains, but I also have extremely sensitive teeth and gums, so I haven’t been able to find a product that whitened enough AND didn’t give me pain due to sensitivity. What’s really cool about Smile Brilliant is that you can order either a normal or sensitive kit– in the sensitive kit, not only do you receive whitening past with your treatment, but you also get 6 tubes of de-sensitizing gel in your box. I like to think of it like an epidural… for your teeth. The desensitizing gel should be used afterwards in order for your teeth to re-hydrate.
What’s really cool about Smile Brilliant is that up until recently the custom fitted tray was only available at the dentist office for over $500. And when I say custom– I mean custom– you take an impression of your teeth and send it back to their lab and they MAKE trays for you. (More on that a little later, but talk about value!) The competitor brand I used from Amazon didn’t make anything custom for me… you just get a little instruction kit on how to boil water, stick your mold in, and then immediately stick it in your mouth to make the mold (also… ow?!), which doesn’t give you an exact fit. The Smile Brilliant trays are professional grade and fit like a glove– a teeth glove– so the whitening gel is RIGHT on your teeth.
The Smile Brilliant kits range anywhere from $119-154 just depending on how many syringes you order and if you’d like the desensitizing gel.
Basically, how it works is:
+ You receive your Smile Brilliant box (pictured above). Mine included one set of teeth whitening impression trays (top and bottom), three sets of catalyst + base paste (you only need two but they include a third in the event of an oops), three whitening gel syringes and three desensitizing gel syringes. However, if you don’t have sensitive teeth, you can just go balls to the wall and order six syringes of whitener. Up to you!
+ To make your mold, you take one little tub of catalyst (white) + base (blue) and mix it together like PlayDoh. It’s really fun! Then you press it into one tray nice and smooth (act quick, it dries fast!)
+ I started with my top row; put the tray into your mouth and gently bite down, letting the blue paste mold around your teeth. Don’t bite down super hard, because you don’t bite down that hard when you’re naturally still, and you want your trays to be comfortable. Wait a minute and a half for the mold to semi-harden around your teeth, waiting about a minute and a half. Gently take it out and voilá! Your top is done.
+ Repeat for the bottom, and make sure not to wiggle it when removing them; they’ll be semi-hard and you don’t want to make an accidental indentation in them. Once removed from your mouth, let the impressions sit for 30 minutes.
+ When you’re all done making your top and bottom molds, you let them sit for about 30 minutes or until they’re hard and then rinse them with cool water. (They’ll look something like mine below when you’re done!) Then, you just stick them in the pre-paid envelope they included and drop it in your mailbox! The trays are then shipped back to their lab to make your custom trays… which is where I’m at right now! My trays arrived about a week ago, so I’ve been using them all week to give you guys a really informed review. I can’t wait for you to see my results!
Anyway… the moment you’ve been waiting for! Smile Brilliant and I have teamed up to give one lucky reader a $139.95 credit, which is the equivalent to one set of either teeth whitening trays, 3 whitening gel syringes + 3 desensitizing gel syringes (recommended for sensitive teeth) OR one set of the teeth whitening trays + 6 whitening gel syringes. The contest runs for two weeks and will end on Friday, August 26th! All you have to do is click here to enter your name and e-mail address and you’re all entered!
