Happy almost Friday! Okay, obviously I disregard the whole no white after Labor Day rule. It’s like mixing black and brown. Why would we not?!
I literally threw this outfit together today, and I was super impressed with myself. It really spoke to my theory on the power of basics. If you’ve been following C+C for any period of time, you know that I’m all about constructing a wardrobe from a strong foundation of staples.
In reality, I’m really just wearing a grey long-sleeved tee and a pair of white jeans today, but I spruced it up with accessories and a really great statement piece, and that’s what being a budget fashionista is about. Save your pennies for your statement pieces and your accessories, and keep your basics on heavy rotation! Your closet (and your wallet) will thank you.
I’ve been so in love with faux shearling vests lately. Unfortunately the retailer that sent me this vest to feature went out of business, so I found one super similar ones for you, like this one from Bloomie’s on sale for under $100– and I love it even more in this gray color! Even though it’s not real, shearling’s appeal lies in its natural warmth and texture. It was kind of chilly/windy today, but not quite warm enough for a jacket. This long-sleeved is pretty thin, so the vest added a little warmth and a lot of comfort.
A great faux shearling vest is so worth the investment, as it transitions easily from season to season. You can wear it any time of the year. Plus, there’s something so ’70’s feeling about a good shearling. It’s going to be your perfect layering piece this season; just throw one on over different pieces like a t-shirt, a spring dress, or a chunky sweater. It goes with everything!
Underneath the vest, I just threw on a plain scoop neck long-sleeve. I got mine from Marshall’s, but I found one that looks exactly like it for you guys that I linked at the bottom of this post.
I’m also really loving the nude shoe and white jean look. It’s a color combo I hadn’t considered before, and I’m super glad that I went with it. A good nude heel really elongates the leg, and I think they look really cute with my white skinnies. The ones I’m wearing after Labor Day. 🙂
